I love "The Work"--and used it in leadership to help resolve issues within the team. Thanks for including the framework here--it is so useful.

There's an element of your CIA work (art) that is perhaps more far-reaching and impactful than you might realize--case in point: Your interview of Tara Mohr--led to discussions with some of the women I mentor that unpacked where they were not "Playing Big"--which led to some significant epiphanies for them. So your art as it manifests here is replete with purpose and service--in my book, that's just such a thing of beauty--as art is, at its core. So thank you for the work you are doing here. (The ART you are creating.)

I wrote my novel in the wee hours before I went to my full-time job. An hour a day...it didn't feel like enough--and I was TIRED...but it moved the manuscript ahead. My biggest challenge was accepting that it was moving ahead imperfectly until I could make a bit more time....That was my challenge--learning how to let go of my need for perfection. (Perfect sentence, perfect segment of time...etc. etc. etc.) But it's kinda like Duolingo. 3 minutes a day every day for the last year and voila! My Spanish has improved dramatically.

What generous validation, thank you, Diana. Bird by bird, we make beautiful things happen in this world. And hooray for playing big together. πŸ™Œ

Great piece! I love this:

"Another element of truth in the story, β€œI do have time for my art!,” is that this substack and podcast is my art. I can see that defining β€œmy art” too narrowly limits my creative identity and causes some unnecessary suffering."

I love writing my own newsletter, but I spend a lot of time on it because it is research-based. Consequently, I have to balance my time between it and working on my novel. I sometimes forget that I can consider the newsletter as part of my creative identity and an important part of my body of work, in addition to the fiction I'm working on. Both bring me joy, and I like the balance of nonfiction and fiction.
