Calming, brilliant escape to rural countryside Japan English translation June 2025, highly recommend The Summer House by Masashi Matsuie.

Want to especially read: The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny.

The Incredible Kindness of Paper by Evelyn Skye is a marvelously uplifting read for the soul! I loved it, and it made me want to fill the world with yellow paper roses! A must read in this chaotic, crazy world of today. Thank you, Evelyn!

I'm currently reading Katabasis by R.F. Kuang and really enjoying it. The Wayfinder sounds like it's right up my alley—myth, history, and adventure.

Next on my list is Hekate by Nikita Gill. I love her poems! I've also ordered The Incredible Kindness of Paper, Evelyn. It's been calling to me since you first talked about it. I need a good, uplifting read.

ooh, I’ve been hearing a lot about Katabasis. And now I’m going to look up Nikita Gill, too!

Thank you for ordering a copy of The Incredible Kindness of Paper, Smriti. It means SO much to me that you’re going to read it!

Also, I'm doing a Slow Read with Caroline Donahue of Possession and loving it!

I was skeptical of the hype surrounding Wally Lamb’s The River is Waiting, but it was a 5-star read for me! Currently reading Joyce Carol Oates’s Fox, which is very good if not disturbing.

I always appreciate when a book I'm skeptical about exceeds expectations. It's like an unexpected gift. Thanks for these two titles, Barb--I'm going to look into them now!

I am currently reading The Reformatory, a historical horror, by Tananarive Due and although I am not done, I can tell you that it is really hitting me. The way she describes the characters thoughts and actions is so vivid and equal parts heartbreaking and scary. Spooky season is on us and I had to pick this one up. In October, I'm hoping to read Misery by Stephen King, I Let You Go by Clare Macintosh, and our book club pick, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street!

Mica, you are a braver reader than I. I cannot do anything horror! But that sounds like really great writing, both to enjoy as a reader and to study as a writer. Can't wait for you to read out book club pick, too!

Ditto Evelyn. I'm another scardy cat reader. Although, I am bravely attempting Mexican Gothic this season.
