We had a lively discussion of Yesteryear, talking about:
Unlikeable Characters
Natalie as “the angry woman” - The group agreed that Nathalie embodied the very archetype she condemned, projecting outward what she cannot accept internally. Many readers appreciated this dramatic irony, seeing what the protagonist could not, while also feeling challenged by the questions she raised.
Sympathy for the character was earned for different readers with the severe patriarchal system of her family and the slippery slope of social media.
